Scrawlings

Seen

The reason why I love film so much is because it feels like one of the rare times I am seen and understood. Nothing more needs to be said. Just a story being told in a moving picture that somehow makes me feel less alone. That there is someone out there in the world who has felt what I am feeling, is processing it in real time, and somehow survived and made it to the other side relatively okay.

Maybe my feelings aren’t abnormal or uncommon. It’s another facet of being a human being, gracing planet Earth with trepidation and fear because the universe really is that expansive and unknowing. As beautiful as Earth and life can be, it can also be cruel and vicious in equal measure. No rhyme or reason to it other than that’s what it does. You can’t bargain with it. All you can do is respect and love it, hoping you will never find yourself in its crosshairs, and live a relatively calm and normal life.

It’s just a reminder during those times when I feel my loneliest, when I feel so small, like the only person grazing this planet, that there is someone else out there, just as lonely as I am, trying to make sense of life and the world around them, hoping to find answers to an open ended question in the form of celluloid.
